BSR018: PEACE OR ANNHILATION - "Horrific Disturbing Vision Of War" CD (New Release!!)

Details: 12 total raging D-beat crust assault from Jakarta, INDONESIA. Fans of raw D-beat will be delighted at this recording, fist in the air rampaging kang. With obvious influences from Disclose, Anti Cimex, Shitlickers, Disaster, Discharge and even a bit Crucifix. I think they got the band's name from the Cruicifix debut LP. But they don't play like them. Consist one cover from Swedish's d-beat pioneers Anti Cimex - 'When The Innocent Die!!! D-beat Arise!!

F.P.O/SEEIN RED Split CD

Details: A combo of the new breed with the veterans. Hailing from Macedonia, FxPxO are some of the most dedicated dudes in international HC…constantly touring, trading, contacting people from all over the world. Their music reflects this dedication, fast hardcore thrash with unmatched amounts of energy, positivity and speed. SEEIN RED need no introduction at this point – never wavering from their politics, SEEIN RED kick down more of what they (as both LARM and SEEIN RED) have been doing for over 25 years –playing pissed off political punk/HC.

BLOODBASTARD – Next to Dissect CD

Details:Hobby surgeons, flesh fetishist and horror freaks in general pay attention: your monthly doses of gore, blood, slaughter and other man degrading stuff is brought to you this time by the Bloodbastard brothers from The Netherlands. In only twenty minutes of playing time (and the band still says the album is a full length) nine songs are puked upon you whom actually tell again another horror story about a couple of maniacs who kidnap people, cut them in pieces, hang them in the living room and God knows what else. Only this time the background of the story is set in the northern area from The Netherlands and for the complete story I recommend to have a look at the website of these guys.

The music of the gentlemen is wrapped up nice. Some sounds capes create the right atmosphere and the production also says it all: this is bone breaking, greasy death metal. The songs are mainly played in the same tempo. They are performed okay but a guitar solo is not available and from the two faster tracks one of them (‘Bile’) is a cover from…. Bile. So, those of you who dig the combination between gore and death metal can give this a try. Those of you who like their metal more sophisticated better make sure to stay away.

NOISEAR - Pyroclastic Annhiallation CD

Details: 15 Tracks of uncompromising sociopolitical Insanity from New Mexico. Noisear has been around for about some years, would describe the music as technical grindcore as grind goes into bands like Discordance Axis, Assuck, Lethargy, Human Remains, Gride, 324, Rotten Sound but closer to traditional Grindcore. Excellent sound, a must have for all Grindcore freaks! This version of Pyroclastic Annihilation includes bonus Discordance Axis covers... sick shit!

DESOBEDIENCE CIVIL – No Hay Libertad Sin Desobediencia CD

Details: After a brief intro this Mexican act launches into 18 tracks of classically formatted anarcho punk with dual male/female vocals and straightforward songs. Expect driving chord progressions, lots of doubled vocal yells/screams and tradeoffs, tempo changes between midpaced and relatively fast rhythms, etc. Is it generic? Yeah, it really is. It basically sounds identical to what you'd expect from this general style. There's not much variety and nothing really separates them from the rest of the genre. Sure, Spanish vocals are awesome and make for some ripping fast vocal patterns at times, but other bands sing in Spanish too, so... But, hey, this is a good record, so it's not a big deal. If I had to complain about anything I'd say it's too long, as 40+ minutes of basically the same thing wears a little thin, but... not a real problem. I'm honestly more bothered by the fact that pretty much every song begins with a sample, which both wastes time and messes with the continuity of the CD. "Anarko Punk's" is a little slower and longer than the other tracks, "Enemigas de Dios" is harder hitting and gets slightly more metallic in brief spurts, "Paremos el Exterminio" is another slower and slightly chunkier piece that ends up changing up with some borderline girnd speeds, and of course "Slave to Convention" is a Doom cover. That about covers it. I do like their sound here. It's definitely thick and a little rugged, but it really works, as the mix is pretty even and you can hear everything that's going on. There are no big gaps in the mix and it's not so dirty or raw that things sound sloppy or overly lo-fi all. Sometimes the female vocals get a little loud and overpowering, but that's about it as far as problematic inconsistencies go. The layout's a little jumbled with some typical black and white crust punk styled imagery and a collage of photos and flyers and such, with tons and tons of text all over the place that clutters it up a lot. The lyrics are all in Spanish, so I can't offer much insight there, but based on the imagery and style of the aesthetics here I'm gonna guess it's pretty typical socio-political material. All in all this isn't bad, it's just very one-sided and meets the usual fare of the genre. I don't mind that, but in such cases I'd really prefer something with a little more power to the writing to make it truly worthwhile. This is cool, though. I could definitely see fans of the genre digging this.www.myspace.com/civildisobedience

THE USUAL SUSPECTS - Breaking Bars and Crushing Codes LP

Details: The Usual Suspects played their first show in December 2001. All members, also active in the Leuven squat scene, listen to different kinds of music and that’s where the mix they make comes from. Apparently, people liked it ‘cos requests to play came in and the band went on from there. After having done some gigs in Switzerland and on the shores of France and Holland, the first album, Hasta la vista Commandante, was released in 2002 and was a mix of Suspects –songs, partial covers and nicked bits of songs by other bands. Musical Piracy it’s called. Wicked. The second release, the Classwars EP, on Filth Ear Records was a split with Agathocles, a Belgian grindcoreband and record holder in the Olympic discipline of releasing split albums. After this, The Usual Suspects toured and played a vast number of gigs across Europe and the Uk. Numerous party’s, bars and squat festivals were the scenery of yet another ska-dub-reggea-punkgig. In the meanwhile another album was recorded in November 2006 and released in December 2007. The little scoundrel was baptised in anarchy under the name of: Breaking Bars and Crushing Codes. A new album and quiet a different sound then the first one. No covers (well ok, just the one) and a sound that’s more mature then it used to be. I know other band members will not agree with me here, but I’ll take the risk and state that cheese gets better once a bit older as well. This baby was co-released by Maloka records from Dijon and is out on vinyl as well. We'll be doing some touring again this year (2009), starting with the UK on the end of august and beginning of September. Further on we'll be doing a weeks' tour in Switzerland the first week of November. We're (as always) looking forward to this and hope to see you all there for a laugh and a brew, a can of cider, shredded shirts, lost equipment, a jumped-through dance floor (that wasn't us), and more non-sense... In the mean time, behave, and have a nice one! Anarquia, Luz y Libertad para todos, The Usual Suspects.

DOWN TO AGONY – Requiem Por Un Mundo Enferno EP

Details: The brand new 4 songs 7" from the Spanish powerful & crushing Neo-Crust hardcore-punk band who recorded after the first LP "No-Vida". This band is a sound that mixed His Hero Is Gone, Tragedy and Fear Is The Path To The Darkside but they've their own "darkness". And, the vocalist who does scream in tragic voice expresses misery and death of ourselves invented by this sick world. But in their words, there's a conviction to the reality of our own desires to the last. That is, this one is a just "Requiem por un mundo enfermo (Requiem for a sick world)" as told by the record's title. We (A)cclaim Collective didn't know this band at all until there's contact from them. But we felt that our and their standpoint and purpose were the same, so we decided to participate in this co-release. because they have said like this"we still live, we still burn, we still love". Great artwork.

KRIMTANK - st EP

Details: I like this.. It's rickety-sounding. They're definitley influenced by the likes o Mob 47and Kurbits IR (without quite achieving the speed of the latter) and they sound like they're forever on the verge of falling completely apart. Everything faster than everything else. No crust here, just furious hardcore punk played as fast as they can probably go. I seriously hope these guys never become better musician because they're perfect as they are. I'd bet anything KRIMTANK is a blast live. Well done. MRR

CROPKNOX - ..do what? EP

Details: The Cropknox are testosterone fuelled spiky punk rock outfit from San Francisco and continue in their quest to rip out 21st century battle cries and bag themselves another rather good 45. Heavy duty drums signal the introduction to the opening track 'Do What', which is by far the best track of the 3 on show. These punks work so much better on the single format than an albums worth. They got fuller sound now, with some impressive guitar work from Dave 'n' Nathan, giving this platter enough beef to create a fuss amongst the young studs.

HALF GORILLA - Graceless Beasts EP

Details: This band were always on a winner for me - from the name to the vintage Planet Of The Apes comic cover they ripped off for the label, to the cover (a gorilla headed priest) to the story on their myspace page of a war between human and apes in a post-apocalyptic future they claim as the genesis of their band, I couldn't like them. Luckily, the music lives up to my hopes. They take fast hardcore a la Infest & Crossed Outand beef it up with a dirty Entombed guitar sound, tearing through five songs like King Kong through his latest sacrifice. A definite winner.(Haloofflies)

M:40/SAND CREEK MASSACRE - Split 7" EP

Details: M:40 have a ew releases behind them by now, and on the three tracks on this split they continue to develop their hardcore/crust sound. It's fast aggressive, but they aren't afraid to lower the tempo and perform some crushing tones and powerful rhythms as well. Faster and slower crustcore in a well executed blend . M:40 convince more and more for each release.
Sand Creek Massacre are more dark in their approach and falls under the category of "modern crustcore". Not at all as aggresive as M:40 but still solid stuff.
